Torque Rules!
If you’re visiting our site, chances are you like to go fast. Well contrary to what many people believe horsepower is not the end all be all number to going fast. Ever see a race between two vehicles of equal weight and equal horsepower only to see one vehicle dominate the other. How is that possible? Well it comes down to torque. If you really want to go fast you need torque and you need it available across a broad range of RPM.
Torque is the force that makes a driver’s car. The broader the torque band the better your vehicle will respond, accelerate and just plain drive. So when we tune, it’s to maximize the torque band on a given vehicle.
Horsepower numbers are nice for general comparisons, but at the end of the day Torque Rules!
Less is More…huh?
Well if we take the fact that a broad torque band makes for a better driver experience then what’s the rub? Well in tuning the motor there will be trade offs and compromises in the amount of available power and the usability of that power. If you tune for peak Hp figures you will sacrifice the area under the curve. So giving up 10% hp can gain you a significant advantage in overall drivability and even acceleration. So yes, a low hp vehicle can in some case beat a high Hp competitor. Why? Because Torque Rules!
